Jeniferever - Iris - Big Scary Monsters
When one thinks of bands from Sweden The Hives or Abba are the most likely to spring to mind, now comes Jeniferever, who have broken the mould with their current release. Forget those catchy choruses and bop along tunes of familiar Swedes, this is chilled and mellow, with not a single commercial note in sight. Sorry to disappoint but the black suits and ties just don’t wash with this group.
These are floating tunes, reminisant of the Icelandic Sigur Ros or the highly successful Radiohead, but don’t think TV ads just yet, as they still maintain quit an individual sound. Each song creates an atmosphere of calm and brings the listener to ‘a laying and gazing at the stars’ kind of feeling. You can almost feel the breeze and see the twinkle of those shooting stars as they pass overhead. Can you feel yourself drifting off?
The guitars help build the layers of these epic soundscapes, I suppose the closest they get to a rock band. Their reflective melodies and insight far beyond their years, shows this group will be making ripples with their 40 minute, 4 track EP.
If you feel the rock/pop scene has become somewhat tiresome for your liking then this may be the group for you. Just don’t try saying their name fast 10 times.
