Jeniferever - Iris
Jeniferever have created something quite beautiful with 'Iris'. Their new EP
is a majestic and magical trip through the delicate minds of four
floppy-haired Swedish youths. Four years ago they came together with the aim
of making something big, something bold, and they have succeeded sooner than
most would expect.
Jeniferever share the same spirit of radical invention as their compatriots
Refused. Where Refused tore everything up and daubed slogans on top of the
remains, Jeniferever gently dab and wistfully consider their every move. I
don't know how you wistfully consider every move, but this wondrous band
have mastered it.
'Iris' is an ambition achieved as much as it is a musically ambitious
statement of intent. Jeniferever have an unassailable confidence that could
never be mistaken for arrogance.
Like Sigur Ros, they have created their own musical climate where anything
can happen. Unlike Sigur Ros, they never sound like Enya.
The epic juggernaut of 'For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky'
uncoils itself slowly. Layers of beautifully realised noise rise from the
ether. Guitars and drums interweave to create an unrelenting sense of
urgency.
Melodies soar above the haze that simmers below. Long songs with few words
couldn't sound more perfect than right at this very moment.
The hypnotic ebb and flow of 'Atlantis Arise!' is simultaneously startling
and reassuring. It could be some dreamscape you can't escape from and
perhaps don't want to.
Sometimes our dreams provide us with the opportunity of hope we have lost in
the real world. "Sometimes we're better off knowing only parts of the
truth," Kristofer Jonson sings. Sometimes we're better off just listening to
Jeniferever.
